Has anyone come up with a way to speed up the backend in modx?
I was thinking that creating a set of pages in modx with admin privileges to modify the site content, so that it looks customized, works in IE and is not slow.
Any thoughts on this?
What version of Revolution are you using?
In the latest release (2.07) a lot of work has been done on the manager and it has been claimed pages will load 50% faster than in previous releases.
works in IE and is not slow
turn off firebug and your problem is solved.
Chrome works best for me...and modx 2.0.7 works faster.
edit:
Some people said that it works faster when you switch off on-line feeds(settings) in the main dashboard (bugs and news). Also the newest version 2.2 is pretty fast:)
there is a cache package which will improve it prolly
http://modx.com/extras/package/xfpc
use new php 5.5. it has a nice caching from php files.
I use it and it is great
There is MODX Ajax manager which can make manager faster. Attention: some old extras can have issues with this one.

I'm sure like most developers, you have gotten your code perfect only to test it on IE7 and it doesn't look right.
My analytics say that IE7 is one of the lower ranking versions of IE being used to view my website. My question is why do people still use IE7? Isn't it easier to update to a better version of IE than to still be on 7?
I'm not sure why you would be on such an old version of IE unless you are not computer literate and only use it for basic tasks.
I tried researching on the web but no such luck. Any thoughts?
Some people simply don't have a choice if their IT department has not upgraded them. If you're building your application for a specific client, build it to the lowest version they have to support. If you're just doing this on your own to publish, then just support 'modern' browser versions.
I am new to umbraco, I have a website made in Umbraco version 4.11.10 & it some times really slows down. And I need the ways to speedup my website. It uses the uCommerce package also.
I am aware of AppWarmUp feature of IIS, also I need to know wheater upgreading my website to Umbraco Version 7.6 can help me in this regard?
Thanks
It's a bit broad for a question but I can offer you a couple of tips that usually speed up Umbraco.
Use macro caching, this allows you to avoid running macros that are basically static - like your header/footer etc - this can speed things up enormously
Use the querystring parameter ?umbdebugshowtrace=true and have a look at which parts of your page are taking too long - and focus on them.
Obviously #2 could throw up anything!
Incidentally there is no upgrade path from v4 to v7 - the Umbraco owner Niels Hartvig has often discussed the 'Upgrade Myth' (http://umbraco.com/follow-us/blog-archive/2011/11/14/the-upgrade-myth.aspx)
I have been integrating a standard border container (Nested Layout Widgets) from this site
http://dojotoolkit.org/reference-guide/dijit/layout/BorderContainer.html which worked quite well.
The problem is that I want to use this application offline but didn't find a way to do so. I mean why do I have to be online to use it anyway?
Can you help here? Are there any files that are not stored locally that I have to link across the project? Or is it just not possible to use it offline?
Also, what about the dojo offline project anyway? Th last status is from 2007?
Thank you very much for your help in advance!

You should look at the HTML5 application cache for offline applications. dojox.offline is pretty much abandoned given the newer browser technology.
We've just started to used bugzilla and I found the web interface quite slow and not user-friendly.
I'm wondering if anyone have a suggestion for a client desktop or a browser add-on running under windows.
I found the following page: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Bugzilla:Addons
Which one of these clients (or any other) is the best ? Any other suggestions ?
I already tried Deskzilla Lite, which seem pretty good. However, there is a lot of field (edit bug) that we don't use (i.e. hardware, os, url, depends on, etc). Is there a desktop client that allow to remove and customize the field used in the bug entry form? On this one, please do not answer I can customize the bugzilla templates, we don't want to use the web interface anyway.
Well it depends on your Bugzilla Version. Since I updated to 4.0 I've got no alternative to Deskzilla since MyZilla is not running anymore. LiveProject looks pretty neat but I never tested it, so... Deskzilla lite. :/
I want to get a good list of image gallery engines of all flavours: Stand alone, plugins for Wordpress or Rails, AJAX, no AJAX, using simple folders or a database on the server.
Please state what is needed (eg MySQL and Django) to run each item if possible. Thanks!
[I asked a similar question a while back but had limited responses. Hopefully with more users and a small bounty this will pick up more steam. EDIT - can't attach a bounty for two days. Hold tight.]
These are the ones I recall at the moment, they are all easy to integrate and they don't require much implementation to use. They all have a good and appealing design. Hope it helps.
Cooliris: Runs on flash, uses an
RSS feed to show the images
FancyBox: Jquery Plugin, you
just need to have create an < a
ref... arround the < img src...
LightBox: jQuery plugin, also
easy to use.
Photo Slider: jQuery plugin, as
some thumbnails bellow which you can
use to slide through the images
SimpleViewer: Nice Design, shows
thumbnails and images
HighSlide JS: Javascript viewer
I like Gallery the best of any I've seen. It requires PHP and a database). It can be plugged in to WordPress and other CMSish things
Take a look at SourceForge
If you are looking for a gallery application I recommend the open source project 'Gallery2'.
Lytebox is easy to use and very nice. It's enhanced version of LightBox.
Here is a nice photogallery using silverlight. Slide.Show is another slick Silverlight gallery. There are many gallery modules available for DotNetNuke, and an official module. There are also a great many available on Codeplex.
