excel spreadsheet data to web form - excel

I'm looking to place my company's trailer inventory on a few free classified ad sites. Our inventory database (filemaker) can export data into an excel spreadsheet (column A-Make, B-Model, C-Year, etc.) including the URLs of the photos of each trailer.
Our dealer sites allow for bulk uploading through XML and that works great.
My problem is on the smaller free classified ad sites that have a web form that needs filled out (the example I'm using here has text fields and drop-down menus, but other sites have check boxes and radio buttons) then submitted for each individual trailer (about 90 trailers). I'm wondering how I can use the data in my spreadsheet to auto-fill the form with the information in row 1, submit it, re-navigate back to the form and repeat the process with the info in row 2 and so on. I know that I'm going to have to tailor my data and columns to fit each site (match column names to field names and change relevant data to match drop down options, etc.).
**edit Also (although not necessary) it would be nice if it was possible to have my photo URLs entered as well (if at all possible).
I've created a "test" account on http://www.horseclicks.com. Once logged in you have to click on "My Trailers" on the left and then the "add" button

pass: excel
Any takers??

This doesn't completely answer your question, but would save you some time entering the forms manually. If you know the names of input tags on the form you want to fill out, you can write a Javascript that will fill out the form for you: i.e., document.getElementById('your_name').value=Name[x]; etc.
In that example, Name would be an array that would contain a list of the names you wanted to put in the input field "your_name". You can easily turn an Excel sheet into a Javascript array by exporting to CSV and cut/paste into your code. Make it so that the value of x increases by 1 each time the script is ran.
Take your whole javascript, and turn it into one line that starts with "javascript:" and place this as a bookmark in your toolbar. Now you can go to the form, hit the your bookmark button and it will fill out the form. Hit submit, go back to the form, hit the button again...

Powerapps: button selection on a previous screen prefill a field in a form

I am attempting to build an app with Microsoft powerapps that will be writing/reading data to/from an excel sheet.
I have created a form in powerapps from a table in the excel sheet. I am curious to know if anyone knows how to fill the data in a field based on a button selection on a previous screen.
As an example let's say the following fields are in the form; Location, Action, Item, Username.
This is what I am imaging and would like to do;
I would like the first two fields to be filled by selecting buttons on a previous screens instead of a drop down menu in the edit form view. the last two field can be filled by inputting text on a thirds screen.
The flow:
Screen1; presents two 4 locations in the form of buttons*doesn't necessarily have to be a button but function like one.
4 locations: NY, LA, AZ, LN
when users selects "NY" button, "NY" is filled/stored in to the "location" field in the form and the screen navigates to the next page where the user will select the actions.
Screen2; presents two 2 actions in the form of button.
2 Actions: remove, add
when users selects "remove" button, "remove" is filled/stored in to the "action" field in the form and the screen navigates to the next page where the user will fill the other two fields in a text field.
Screen3; has two text fields where user can fill in the rest of the information for item and user name. Location and Action should be prefilled at this point. When the user submits the form all data is submitted and a row is created in the excel table with all the information captured.
any information how to make a button selection on a previous screen prefill a field in a form that would be awesome! thank you for reading.
It sounds like you want to use a collection. A collection can be used similar to a global variable and will allow us to access data on a different screen than the one we set it on.
Some useful information can be found here:
https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/working-with-variables/#create-a-collection
https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/function-clear-collect-clearcollect/
Based off of your flow, let's assume that the screens are named as follows:
Screen1 will be "SpecifyLocation"
Screen2 will be "SpecifyAction"
Screen3 will be "FinalizeInput"
The names are arbitrary, but I think they'll make the following example easier to follow.
On the screen "SpecifyLocation", we're going to create four buttons. They will all be identical, except for the name of the location they reference. For instance, the button referencing "NY" would be as follows:
Text = "New York"
OnSelect = ClearCollect( LocationMetadata, "NY" ); Navigate(SpecifyAction,ScreenTransition.Cover)
Please note that the OnSelect value is two different functions separated by a semicolon. The first function, ClearCollect(), clears all information in a collection and then writes a new entry. In this case, we have a collection named LocationMetadata into which we are writing the value "NY". The second function, Navigate(), changes which screen we are looking at.
On the screen "SpecifyAction", we're going to create two buttons. They will be similar, except for the action they refer to. For instance, the button referencing "Add" would be as follows:
Text = "Add"
OnSelect = ClearCollect( ActionMetadata, "Add" ); Navigate(FinalizeInput,ScreenTransition.Cover)
As was the case before, we've created a button that calls two functions when clicked. They are the same two functions as last time; however, we've changed LocationMetadata to ActionMetadata in our ClearCollect() call, since we want to store a different piece of information. We've also changed our Navigate() call to move us over to the "FinalizeInput" screen.
I'm not entirely sure how you've got your final screen laid out, but in any case, you'll want to access the data we stored in collections previously. This can be done with the function First(), which returns the first element of a collection.
To access our selected location, you can use: First(LocationMetadata).Value
To access our selected action, you can use: First(ActionMetadata).Value
You should be able to supplement whatever extra data is collected from your user on this final screen with the collections we set up.

Infopath Newbie - Populate field from lookup value

There are explanations for this all over the web, but none I have followed a) seem to work, b) explain how to achieve this in simple noob terms, c) show any sort of diagram, or d) make assumptions that you want to start jumping right into code...
I have a form for users to log training they have completed. I have a sharepoint list with the course name and the duration in hours.
When the user opens the infopath form, it populates a read-only field with their username, and populates a dropdown with the list of available training courses from my sharepoint list.
All I want to do is to populate another read-only field with the duration of the course... But I just cant find the right filter settings to do it.
Currently I have the default value of the duration field in my form set to the formula:
Duration(from SP list)[Course Title (from SP list) = Training Course (from form lookup field)]
But this is not returning any values...
This is using both SP 2010 and IP 2010
Ok, you use rules, not the default value, as pretty much every website I have looked for answer tells you...
Make sure the default value for the field you want to populate is blank, and then set a rule that when your lookup field value changes, it updates the value in your other field...
That was easier than I thought!
This is soemthing called a cascated drop down there are various examples of this on the web.
To do this you need to click on the drop down box that you want to filter.
This will be the duration. (The user would then select the course they went on)
In the duration drop down below you would ensure that you have connected it the correct data source.
Right click on the duraction drop down.
Drop down list properties
get choices from external data source
on the entries you would select the button to the right hand side
You would select 'course title now as this is what you want it to be filtered by' (drop down above)
When selected you would click filter data - (button on bottom right hand side)
You would then filter it so the formula is 'CourseTitle(above drop down) 'is equal to' CourseTitle(data source from the list)'
This then should only allow them to match select the time that matches that course.
If this doesnt work let me know.

Save Infopath form w. dynamicly created fields in Sharepoint 2010 Library

I am very new to Infopath, and need some architechtual guideslines. My scenario is as follows:
I have a Sharepoint list, let's say it contains beer, and three items of it: "Kronenbourg", "Corona", "Tuborg". "Beer" is a content type, derived from Item.
What I need to do :
I need to create a "dynamic" Infopath form, that presents the user with a CheckBox for each beer. If a new beer is added to the Beer list, a new Checkbox should show up on the form without intervention, even on saved instances of the form. I have not decided what should happen upon deletions.
I then need to save this infopath form, including the selections, in a sharepoint form library, so that the users can go back to one of maybe many beer-forms that they have saved, and maybe change the selections.
I also need to build a string from the selections at some point in time, and present this string in a visible column in the form library, but thats beyond the scope of this post.
What I managed to throw together so far:
I have a kind of working Infopath form. I have added a sharepoint dataconnection to the Beer list, and dragged a repeating table to the design area. This "works", i get a list of my list items. I then added dummy Y/N field to my beer content type, selected it in the fields, and now i get a neat checkbox next to my records.
Obviously this does not seem right. I do not need to save anything back to the Beer table, I only need to use the beer table for lookup, and keep the selected choices in the saved instance of the form.
Ok, thanks for staying with me so far. What do I do here, can Infopath be persuaded to support a scenario like this, or am I better off building custom webparts? I think my main questions are:
Can I maybe attach an "input-only" CheckBox to a repeating list/section ? (and how do I refer to such dynamically created control)
How do I make Infopath load the choices dynamicly from db, but save the data in the instance of the form?
Should, and can I maybe attach a content type to the form library, representing the choices and somehow attach that to the form?
Thanks for any input
If I understand your requirements, I think the thing to do here is to use a Multi-Selection list box (MSLB). This can have its values populated from a secondary data source (i.e. a list), and it would be bound to a repeating field that would automatically have values added and removed as values are selected and deselected.
As far as getting the selections into a single string, if you just want this value for a column of the form library that the forms will be submitted to, you can just use this repeating field as a promoted property, and use the "Aggregate" option to combine the values into one.
The other option would be to create a separate field to hold the string and use the "double eval trick" (please Google that) to combine the values into one. One gotcha here is that if you use double eval trick with a MSLB, you have to put the formula both in a rule on the MSLB's field, and in the default value formula for the target field.

form view in excel for a record

I have a sheet in excel that is basically like a database (yes it has to be in excel unfortunately) and I want to design a simple form to display the records (the different column values in the rows). Usually MS is good with making widgets to do this but I cant seem to figure out how to write it in VBA (easily)
Basically I have a list of Names and ID#'s then some other columns that need to be filled in (address, order # etc) but I'd like the user to do this via a form rather than typing in excel. I created a small form in VBA, but now I cant link the columns to the textboxes in the form.
Anyone know of any code I can plug and play to do this.
Specifically I am using a ComboBox (for the list of names) and then a for loop searching through it to find the selection and updating data. But its a real pain.
plus I cant figure out how to put in a 'Next' button, which is really annoying me. Does anyone know how to change the comboBox value to the next row, if it is linked via RowSource
Have you considered the Form feature? You can find under the commands you can add to your QuickAccess toolbar.

Excel User Form, Previous Button

I have an excel user form for data entry, at the moment the form functions so that users can add data. I would like to add a previous, next, first and last case button so that users can make edits via the form. The code I used for the form was derived from this website: http://www.contextures.com/xluserform02.html
If someone could describe how to add those command buttons to that form I would be very appreciative!
Thanks!
I have a tutorial on my site that almost does what you want.
http://www.dailydoseofexcel.com/archives/2004/09/09/linking-userforms-and-worksheets-part-v/
It uses a scrollbar instead of buttons, but you may be able to adapt it. The basic steps are
Load the current row data into the form
Store the current row
When a button is pushed, change the stored row (to +1, -1, the first row, or the last row)
Load the new row's data
Then you have to have code that determines if the current record has been changed. If it has, you have to write the changes or give the user the option to write or discard.
Also, you may want to disable the First and Previous buttons if the user is on the first record. Similar for Last and Next and the last row.
The tutorial on my site has all that code and a downloadable workbook that you can follow along with. Good luck.
