gnome-calendar in xfce4: I cannot use google calendar - gnome

I cannot configure online accounts with gnome-calendar in Xfce4 nop lxde. When I press in google line for example, it makes nothing. Is there something I missed?
I use Arch Linux.

Update: workaround
Launch GNOME Control Center with this trick (thanks, Reddit):
env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-control-center
and set up your calendar settings (Online accounts) from there.
Worked for me :)
Original "answer"
Not an answer, but I don't have enough reputation to comment :)
I use Arch Linux, too, with XFCE Desktop and I experience the same problem.
As I'm watching the output of journalctl -f while trying to add a new calendar provider, I get some clues on what is going on:
I get similar errors if I'm trying to launch GNOME Control Center.
The function
#4 0x00005654135cad52 cc_shell_model_set_panel_visibility (gnome-control-center)
appears in both of the outputs.
My best guess is that to access these settings, the calendar app uses GNOME Control Center, but the latter assumes GNOME Shell and calls a function that depends on its runtime environment.

1 .Go to Google Calendar -> Settings (Top Right of the page)
2 .In there, click on the Calendar Tab (Top left of said page)
3 . Click on export Calendar. This will download the calendar in an .ics file format.
4 . Extract the .ics file and go to Gnome Calendar, click on settings. From the dialogue box that appears, select from file and go to the extracted .ics location and select the one without the '#' in the starting of its name.
5 . Select synchronize back in Calendar and make sure your internet is working.

Designer HELP Release 9.0.1FP10 SHF315

This very annoying and I can't figure how to change it. When in Designer And I click on Help >> Help Contents from drop down menu it displays it differently than what I have been used to seeing and is very hard to navigate through. Is there a way to change the behavior? I recently got new Hard drive with Windows 10 opperating system
This is what I am used to seeing and is very navigable:
IBM Support was able to reproduce this and is looking into the issue. I did find a work around.
Open Help Contents from the drop down Help menu.
Right Click on the window and select properties.
Highlight and copy the Address (URL) line
Open a browser (not IE) and paste it in the Address line and go to the page.
It should then present it in a usable form. If not, then click on the first content and that should do the trick.
A problem report has been created with IBM or HCL or whatever they are called now: SPR # ZNDNBA7TEV: Domino Designer Help Contents Display Issue

Userform toolbox additional controls dialogue window not showing

While using MS Excel (Outlook, Word, or Power Point as well apparently) I create a userform. The toolbox shows up showing controls tab and 16 icons representing various controls. When I right click in some empty space in the tool box control area, a menu comes up listing "additional controls" at the top and two greyed out options below it. When I select "additional controls" a spinning blue circle appears briefly then disappears and nothing happens.
It is my understanding that a dialogue box should open at this point and I should be able to select some additional controls.
I noticed the problem while trying to follow a video on how to data scrape for my personal project which I asked for help here.
What I have tried
Creating a user form on another computer and then importing it to this one. No success.
Repairing MS Excel. This resulted in a full reinstall I believe as I had to re enter my product key. No success.
Resetting various registry keys as mentioned in this article. No success.
KB 369383 as mention as part of the process above. No success.
Issue described here but no solution, just a work around to something to what the person was trying to add.
Setting MS Excel to run in compatibility mode. There was no compatibility mode listed as an option under properties for the desktop icon.
Running as administrator even though my Windows account has admin rights. No change.
Cleaning the registry with both ccleaner and wise registry cleaner.
Running Excel in safe mode using excel.exe /s. Confirmed with (safe mode) in the title bar. No success.
My System
Windows 10
MS Office Professional 2013 - 32
(Note, no crystal reports added that I am aware of)
Additional Info
I tried another Windows 10 machine running same version of MS Office and it worked there, so it should not solely be a Windows 10 issue. My machine was an upgrade from Windows 7 - 64. The other machine was an upgrade from windows 8.
I created a new Windows user account and the dialogue box comes up for that account. At least now we know that its SOMETHING to do with my user account/profile.
I found a solution to 'my' problem after spending 2-3 nights over this. It turned out to be a very simple and not-so-intuitive fix.
My problem was that when I right-click on the Toolbox, I do not even get to see the "Additional Control" option in the menu.
Click on the userform, so that its selected.
Now go to Tools and Additional Controls is no longer greyed out. :)
Make sure the the Toolbox window is selected first then click on the Tools menu and Additional Controls should then be visible
In my case it was the toolbox that needed to be selected and not the userform.
When toolbox is selected, bam! the "Additional Controls" is no longer greyed out.

How can I disable autocorrect in Edge?

I want to disable autocorrect in specific page of Edge Browser.
How can I disable autocorrect in Edge?
But I don't want to disable autocorrect of whole Windows10.
(example...Settings -> Devices -> Typing....This is not...!!)
You can solve this without editing the registry:
It's not about Edge but the whole win 10. Open
Settings from the start menu, then go to devices. There you'll find a
tab named Typing, fifth in the list for me, and the autocorrect
feature is displayed there. If you switch the autocorrect off, edge
will stop bugging your text (i actually wrote this in edge ;) ).
Enjoy. :)
Note: Currently open Edge windows will still auto-(in)correct until Edge has been restarted.
Another article in the link in Etiennes answer.
Apparently the menu is not available by default.
By reading the instructions here : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/how-to-turn-of-autocorrect-typing-in-edge/6944dcc4-6ef4-4ec6-afaa-5a0ca08c3bd2?auth=1
You can follow this and it should work :
If for some reason the "Typing" tab in the settings is gone (It was for me) you can unhide it through regedit.
Use regedit and search for the following value: "ShowAutoCorrection". Change the value to '1' and you should be able to access "Settings -> Devices -> Typing" to change your autocorrection settings.
Restart your application, log in and out, or reboot your system to make the changes apparent. It worked for Skype at the very least for me.
I have found a solution, friends of Edge! Download the Tampermonkey MS Edge extension from the Windows Store and install the following UserScript:
https://greasyfork.org/de/scripts/39190-disable-spellcheck-globally
This UserScript sets the "spellcheck" attribute to the global element/tag of every website you visit so that Edge MUST obey the rules. This also fixes the issue of auto-correction.
If you want to limit it to a certain website just modify the "#include" tags, for example:
#include https://www.reddit.com/*
To disable spellchecking on reddit only.
You can get Tampermonkey here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/tampermonkey/9nblggh5162s
Works on Windows 10 build 17112.1
What I found to do it disable autocorrect in the new Chromium-based Edge, is to right-click on a word that has been autocorrected. It should list the original word with the option to restore it. Beneath that, there should be an option to either disable autocorrect for that site or permanently. Select your preference and autocorrect should stop bugging you.
Hope to be of help.

Launch trusted file on computer from cell in Excel

I have a cell in my spreadsheet that has a hyperlink to a script file (AutoHotKey) and I'd like to be able to launch said script by clicking on the cell in Excel. It works but I'm always presented with a warning:
Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. Would you like to open this file?"
I've done everything I can think of in the Trust Center to get it to allow me to open this file without having to confirm it.
Is there something in the Trust Center, or a bit of VBA, that I could use to allow access to this file (and others like it) without having to confirm my selection every time?
This solution should also work for newer Excel versions (e.g. 365)
Download Procmon:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx
Run Procmon.exe
Toggle Capture Events to off (File > Capture Events)
Clear the current events (Edit > Clear Display)
Toggle Capture Events on.
Click the desired hyperlink in Excel.
Turn Capture Events off.
Filter by Process=EXCEL.EXE (Filter > Filter ..) and click add
Filter also by Operation=RegQueryValue and Result=NAME NOT FOUND
Find the first entry with EditFlags in the path (use the search icon to search the filtered list)
Right click on that entry and select > Jump to (opens registry)
9 Add a new DWORD type named EditFlags with the hexadecimal value 10000.
In my case it was the key htmlfile_FullWindowEmbed
Modified from here
Please follow instructions on the following page to resolve your issue:
How to enable or disable hyperlink warning messages in 2007 Office programs and in Office 2010 programs
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/925757
Regards,
Please try to create/add the REG_DWORD type registry value “EditFlags”
(with the value data "EditFlags"=dword:00010000) under the registry
key location “HKCR\htmlfile_FullWindowEmbed\” on the same problem
client machine. After that, please restart the client machine and
then try to open the PDF file through the http URL link from the Excel
file again.

Windows 8.1 - Possible to change tile colour?

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 I've noticed the colour of the tiles looks awful, is there a way to change these that is...
Free
Doesn't involve hacking around with registry/XML files
As you can see below my GIT icons are barely visible :(
I don't have a non XML Solution, but the XML solution is quite easy to follow and could easily be converted into a tool.
For example to change the background of the GIT Bash tile:
the shorcut of the tile links to something like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\bin\sh.exe" --login -i (to find the shortcut: right click -> goto location)
Go to the folder of the executable (here C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\bin)
Create a sh.visualelementsmanifest.xml with the content:
<Application xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<VisualElements
BackgroundColor="maroon"
ShowNameOnSquare150x150Logo="on"
ForegroundText="light"/>
</Application>
(full spec at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn393983.aspx)
Update the shorcut file time stamp (e.g. copy file, delete old file)
Enjoy new tile. For example:
In reference to Xyroid's answer which has - so far - received no points, maybe this is because the link has changed / gone.
OblyTile, for those who want a GUI to manage Tile design, works perfectly on my Windows 8.1
The link to this is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899865
In particular, the developer has provided much improved icons for some internal windows apps (e.g. Control Panel) where the standard tile doesn't really match the design of the other Modern App tiles.
(I would have just added a comment, but I still need more reputation)!
According to Desktop App Tiles on the Start Screen, the background color of desktop app's Start menu tile is derived from the user's chosen background color, so try changing Start menu's background color.
